Manager, Airport Operations Planning

to join our team as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic organization, where you will contribute to safe, efficient, and innovative terminal operations. You will lead a team of two Operations Planning Specialists, report directly to the Vice President Operations and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Operations department with your expertise and personality. We are looking for a candidate who possesses a strong leadership background in the aviation industry, and proven track-record working with U.S. airport operators and airlines. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing Terminal A’s operations through supporting various operations and planning projects, as well as facilitating management decision-making through sound data analysis and reporting.  Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team of Operations Planning Specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation to achieve organizational goals.
  • Operations Optimization, Support and Planning:
    • Continuously optimize processes and procedures by identifying areas for improvement, documenting optimization strategies, and driving their execution.
    • Generate, analyze, and distribute daily traffic reports and forecasts, using available schedule data.
    • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive Key Performance Indicator (KPI) dashboards, providing insights into operational performance.
    • Lead the development and implementation of a formal management reporting system to capture and communicate operational data and metrics, facilitating data-driven decision-making.
    • Foster effective coordination and communication within the airline community, managing open item lists and facilitating stakeholder meetings.
    • Identify infrastructure or operational gaps within the terminal, airside, baggage handling, operations control, and security, collaborating with the relevant teams to address them.
    • Lead the setup and maintenance of a training database/learning management system, including training materials, records, and plans, and align with the relevant department trainers for any training requirements.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead the management of Operations projects from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
    • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to lead terminal and airside planning efforts, driving operational efficiency and excellence.
    • Effectively communicate project objectives, tasks, and milestones to stakeholders, fostering collaboration and ensuring successful project execution.
    • Conduct regular project progress reviews, proactively identify and mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Innovation Management:
    • Lead innovation generation, recording and sharing within the organization by engaging staff, management, and other stakeholders in the innovation management process.
    • Identify relevant ideas for implementation into organization, operations, and/or infrastructure.
    • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential application to the operations of EWR Terminal A.
    • Conduct comprehensive cost/benefit analyses for potential innovation projects, ensuring alignment with operational goals and objectives.
    • Define and propose future operational projects, leveraging industry advancements to drive continuous improvement and maintain competitiveness.
  • Safety Management:
    • Ownership of MANJ’s Safety Management System in compliance with 14 CFR Part 139, prioritizing the safety of operations
    • Lead operational safety topics, including the Terminal A safety program, and establish a safety culture at Terminal A.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Vice President Operations.

Education & Training
  • Bachelor's degree in Airport or Aviation Management, or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 10-12 years' experience in an operations-related or planning role with an airport operator, terminal operator, airline or consultancy.
  • At least 3-5 years in an operations or project leadership role.
  • Candidates with a master’s degree in a relevant field may be considered in lieu of some work experience, provided they demonstrate a strong academic background and the necessary skills for the position.

Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in airport operations planning, airport project-related work, or similar roles within airport operators or airlines, with an in-depth knowledge of airport operations.
  • Knowledge of airport certification regulations, particularly 14 CFR Part 139, and understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) for airport operations.
  • Project management skills, with a track record of working on projects in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders (including government agencies) at all levels.
  • Excellent proficiency in using MS Office applications.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is a plus.
  • A strong focus on delivering high-quality results and exceeding expectations.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently, make independent decisions, and prioritize tasks effectively.
